Shutting down Pastaland

  • Masters

If you're as addicted to pasta as me, you might want to check out this topic
    http://pastaland.ovh/topic/317/backup-server-spirit-of-pasta

  • @GustavoLapasta See, but you didn't take advice from anyone besides occasionally from Star. You would ask for input, then disregard the input and do what you originally planned.
Rule #1 is to not run a server like anyone from Crowd> has.

  • @swatllama though this may come as surprise, but one thing i can't agree about Gustavo's managing style is, that it's anywhere close to Crowd>. He always took any suggestions and feedback seriously and thought very thorough about any of them. You can't say he neglected them, just because he hasn't made his reasoning public to infuse more idiotic, needless discussions and drama.

Also, if you rate it on my attempts in percent, he rarely took my advice.

  • @GustavoLapasta Many many thanks for all the hard work and effort you have put into Pastaland. Would be unfortunate if ALL that effort would be fragged into oblivion and get evaporated forever...
Therefor i have set up one of my (spare) servers , a Dual CPU PowerEdge 2950 32GBRAM with Debian 8.7 (and installed spaghettimod) but this OS version only has LUA 5.1 (not 5.2) as a default package . Is LUA5.1 sufficient or is LUA5.2 the only right version ?.On the other hand LUA5.3 is already existing? Which version to proceed with? Please advice. Many Thanks!
ps : Also Negus (many thanks) has used LUA5.2 as decribed in www.sauerworld.org/how-to-install-spaghetti-mod-on-debian-8/
    http://pastebin.com/B9zEx8Du

    Greetings.

@tempelier1307 the best case scenario would be installing a working version of LuaJit. I've actually never tried in Debian, maybe @DipShitStar can chime in for help?

  • @GustavoLapasta
Hi Gustavo, got through with the installation using LUA5.1 (g++ compile was ok) as described in http://pastebin.com/B9zEx8Du and edited file 1000-sample-config.lua in /root/spaghettimod/script/load.d as well as file gustavo.auth in /proc/8972/cwd/Pastaland/var
(had to search for its location) en then copied contents of var to spaghettimod/var, contents of scripts/ to spaghettimod/script (!!not scripts) . After did following:
    root@PASTA-SAUER:~/spaghettimod# ./updategeoip (seems OK)
    root@PASTA-SAUER:~/spaghettimod#GST=1 ./sauer_server
BUT then i got this :
    Trying to load the debugger...
    Debugger v1.4.0
Debugger: Trying to connect to 127.0.0.1:10000 ...
Debugger: Failed to connect to 127.0.0.1:10000 (connection refused)

It's unlikely that the server will function properly.

    @tempelier1307
    idk about the lua error
as for the master server, probably you do not have open the correct ports (28785,28786 by default, tcp and udp)

  • This error is most likely not connected to the masterserver messages you see.
It clearly states a taceback, to where the problem originates. And although bitches will say I'm being a dick again, here is something I need to do:

    Quote @pisto:

... It is for modders who already have a good knowledge of the Sauerbraten server codebase, and just want tools to easily extend that with Lua. It is not for clan leaders who just want a personalized (read, custom message color or little more) server.

So please, LISTEN to this advice. If you are a novice, you shouldn't be toying around with this.

You @tempelier1307 seem to fall into this category, based on the things you just posted. If you can't figure out the reason for the crash on your own, spaghettimod clearly isn't the mod for you!
There are others out there! have a look here:

    http://www.sauerworld.org/resources/

There is also Qserv, zeromod and eXtremeServer ( which is currently taken down but will reappear shortly ). Last one also has a rugby feature, the others i don't know. So please do yourself a favour, either dig into debugging and lua more, or use something different.
This advice is mainly for your security. I don't care if you listen or not.

Like Star said, there are other mods that are meant for clan leaders to use that are easier to install and compile. Spaghettimod is definitely build for programmers because of its extensible lua implementation. If you're looking to get a simple pass-the-flag server going, QServ can help https://github.com/deathstar/QServCollect.

And also from your debug messages it says in the log "64 bytes from tesseract.gg (37.59.116.203): icmp_seq=1 ttl=54 time=16.8 ms." I'm not 100% sure if Tesseract is even in a release stage, let alone spaghettimod for Tesseract. The error "Sun Feb 26 20:02:30 2017 | Error running script/bootstrap.lua: ./script/utils/lambda.lua:8: bad argument #1 to 'load' (function expected, got string) {" seems to have to do with some scripts, specifically the first argument.

  • This is a bit late, but thank you Gustavo for the pastland server and forum, this has brought me and most others hours of fun, thanks again.
